City leaders in Brampton, Ontario, voted on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2014, to banish any portion of the Hurontario-Main Light Rail Transit Project from the city's Main Street, despite the preference of regional transit agency Metrolinx to place the line on the major thoroughfare.

Ontario Province to fund entire Hurontario LRT

 

Canada’s Ontario Province will be covering the entire cost of a 14.2-mile, $1.6 billion light rail line connecting the Port Credit (Mississauga) and Brampton GO Transit regional/commuter rail stations, Transportation ‎Minister Steven Del Duca confirmed on April 21, 2015.

New Ontario light-rail line between Mississauga, Brampton in the works

 

Ontario's government on Tuesday announced plans for a Hurontario-Main light-rail transit (LRT) project that would create 14 miles of track between the cities of Mississauga and Brampton.

The line would have 26 stops, with three stations in downtown Mississauga and two in downtown Brampton.

The Hurontario Street LRT in Mississauga is expected to provide significantly improved transit for one of Ontario’s largest and fastest growing cities.

Hurontario light rail request for qualifications issued

CANADA: Infrastructure Ontario and Greater Toronto transport agency Metrolinx have issued a request for qualifications seeking parties interested in a contract to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the planned Hurontario Light Rail Transit project.

Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario (IO) have released a short list of three teams that qualify to bid on the 12.4-mile Hurontario light-rail project.

The three teams were selected based on criteria identified in a request for qualifications process that began in October 2016.

Budget woes force Hurontario LRT scale-backs

 

 

 

Metrolinx, the Government of Ontario’s transit funding, planning and construction agency, recently announced cutbacks to the Hurontario Light Rail project in. The stated reason for the changes was to help reduce Ontario’s multi-billion-dollar budget deficit.

Metrolinx to alter Hurontario light-rail project to cut costs

 

 

 

The Ontario government has approved Metrolinx's recommended changes to the Hurontario light-rail transit (LRT) project in order to trim costs, Metrolink Chief Executive Officer Phil Verster announced last week.

Ontario selects preferred bidder for Hurontario LRT
 

INFRASTRUCTURE Ontario and Metrolinx have selected the Mobilinx consortium as preferred bidder for a contact to design, build, finance operate and maintain the 18km Hurontario LRT.

The 19-station Hurontario LRT will connect Port Credit Go Transit commuter rail station in Mississauga with Gateway Terminal at Steeles Avenue in Brampton.
