All Weekend Train Service Cancelled
- Track Washed Out Due to Flash Flood -

July 31, 2015 - Passengers on all remaining evening Rail Runner trains will be bussed around an area of railroad track just north of the Town of Algodones that was washed out earlier tonight by flash flooding. That means that passengers on northbound trains will  deboard at the US 550 Rail Runner station in Bernalillo and get on buses until they reach the 599 Rail Runner Station outside Santa Fe. There they will get back on a train that will take them the rest of the way into Santa Fe.

All passengers due to board southbound trains out of Santa Fe will be bussed to the US 550 station at Bernalillo where they will board another train and complete their journey to destinations south.

A flash flood washed out about 100-feet of railroad track on the north side of the bridge at Arroyo Maria Chavez, just north of the Town of Algodones between 6:30 and 7:00 pm. Due to this severe weather event, Rail Runner service will be suspended for the entire weekend (through Sunday, August 2, 2015) as crews work to restabilize the ground beneath the damaged track.

PLEASE NOTE:  The Rails, Trails, and Ales Brew Tour Kick-off event which was scheduled for tomorrow Saturday, August 1st - will be postponed and rescheduled at a later date.

Is this incident in the area solely served by RailRunner, or is the Southwest Chief affected too?

I'm not sure why RailRunner can't still run trains between Albuquerque and Belen, the southern part of the line.  Their yard facility is right near the downtown station.  They run in push-pull fashion so turning the train is not an issue.   That's a mindset they seem to have learned from Amtrak. If we can't run the train all the way, we can't run it at all.

Work Continues on Track
- Regular Train Service Anticipated to Resume Monday Morning -

August 2, 2015 – Crews have been working throughout the weekend to repair the washed out railroad track north of Algodones after a flash flood on Friday night.

Service was suspended on Saturday and Sunday while repairs are made. These crews will continue to work throughout the day and evening hours in an effort to get the tracks repaired in time for Monday morning’s commute.

“Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we are planning to run our regular schedule on Monday,” said Rail Runner Operations Manager Robert Gonzales.  “We will examine the track and make the final call late this evening.”

Service updates will continue to be posted on the Rail Runner website at nmrailrunner.com as well as on Facebook and Twitter.  Passengers who have signed up for email or text message alerts will also receive an update about any service changes.
