Story is here.Proposed rail service to King of Prussia will be examined by SEPTA officials in three public sessions in Montgomery County next week.
Well OK, but useless if SEPTA follows through on ending service over its dilapidated bridge between Bridgeport and Norristown.SEPTA is considering ways to extend the Norristown High Speed Line to King of Prussia and Upper Merion Township from its current terminus in Norristown to provide train service to the region's largest suburban employment and retail center.

Norfolk Southern would have to be willing to share trackage, but there wouldn't be that many trains to interfere with freights; and there is enough right-of-way for passing sidings.
Most important is that there would be no need to build separate right-of-way over expensive real estate, as would be necessary at King of Prussia, to access the shopping area.
Vanity Fair backs on NS's Harrisburg—Allentown main line. A retractable platform to allow freight clearances, activated by the conductor using a transponder, would allow passengers to board and alight easily and quickly. The train could either return to Philadelphia or layover at the former Outer Station yard.
I guess SEPTA wouldn't go for the idea since it doesn't call for electric power train operation.

What SEPTA could do is follow ACES practice, diesel at one end, electric at the other. Then the train could use Center City Tunnel.
Or just buy the new dual-mode locos that NJT brought last year, which can run on Cat or diesel.
And then be sure not to park those engines in a yard that floods during a hurricane!
Take care and take trains!

Philadelphia is inland from hurricane impact. But they shouldn't park those engines in Conshohocken, which floods from the Schuylkill River in anything more than a slight downpour. And then be sure not to park those engines in a yard that floods during a hurricane!

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) welcomes your interest and participation in the King of Prussia Rail Project. Early in fall 2012, SEPTA initiated this study to evaluate an extension of the Norristown High Speed Line (NHSL) to the King of Prussia area.
