OKLAHOMA CITY — News9 reports that construction is underway for the MAPS3 streetcar project in Oklahoma City, which will also force some road closures.

The $128 million project is expected to take two years to complete. Once done, it will run more than four miles connecting Bricktown and Midtown. For the full story, click here.

Streetcar rail installation begins

 

Crews are installing rail and pouring concrete this week on Joe Carter Avenue in Bricktown for the MAPS 3 streetcar. Herzog Contracting Corp., in a joint venture with Stacy and Witbeck, has a $50 million contract to build the streetcar line.

Readers of The Oklahoman get the first look at the MAPS 3 streetcars, which are in various stages of assembly at the Brookville Equipment Corp. manufacturing plant in western Pennsylvania.

BTW:  Jane Jayroe Campbell—Miss America 1967 and formerly Miss Oklahoma in 1966—is MAPS newest board member.

City Reveals New Streetcar Maintenance Facility

OKLAHOMA CITY -

When it's finished, the Oklahoma City streetcar system will serve as a link between districts. From Bricktown to Midtown, its tracks will stretch 4.6 miles and make 22 stops along the way.

Oklahoma City considers pedestrian safety ahead of streetcar installation

 

The MAPS3 streetcar project continues to make progress downtown.

 

If you drive between Midtown and Bricktown, you've surely noticed construction on the tracks.

 

By this time next year, the trolleys should be cruising down Broadway and Robinson.

$1 fare recommended for Oklahoma City streetcar

 

 

 

A $1 fare is being recommended for a one-hour pass to ride the Oklahoma City streetcar.

 

A single-day streetcar pass would cost $3 and the charge for a monthly pass would be $32.

Streetcar construction causing concern for downtown OKC business owners

 

 

 

There's mounting fear and frustration for downtown business owners, with parking already a problem, there's now concern that construction of the new street cars could put them out of business.

Streetcar construction causes hardships, optimism for city

 

 

Construction for the new Oklahoma City streetcar downtown is impossible to miss. It has meant several road closures along the route, making it harder to get through downtown.
