'Transformative' Rancho Cucamonga-to-Las Vegas high-speed rail project set to break ground in 2024

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (KABC) -- The Cucamonga Station is about to undergo a major renovation.

Brightline West's high-speed rail will soon be pulling in to the transit station connecting Rancho Cucamonga and the high desert to Las Vegas. It will be the first fully electric high-speed passenger train in the Western United States.

The $12-billion project is expected to break ground in early 2024 and completed in four years -- in time for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

To me, they are doing this on the cheap if they won't take it all the way to Los Angeles.    The local commuter train trip between LA. Union Station and Rancho Cucamonga will partially negate the savings enjoyed by the two hour trip between there and Las Vegas.   People aren't going to be able to pronounce their destination,  unless they watched Bugs Bunny as a kid.

Plus, what they promise for this massive intermodal station in Rancho Cucamonga is reminiscent of the Anaheim station (ARTIC) which was overbuilt with high speed rail in mind, yet HSR won't get there in any of our lifetimes since they can't even get all the segments north of Los Angeles done.
