Newark, NJ Star-Ledger, 1/14/14:

'Double decker' trains on Raritan Valley Line to be reassigned to Super Bowl

The popular “double decker” trains on NJ Transit’s Raritan Valley Line will be taken out of service Monday and temporarily reassigned to the Super Bowl Feb. 2 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.

Here's the story. It is dated January 14th, which means that "Monday" meant January 20th. That was 13 days before the event. So despite the recently posted press release stating that NJT still cares about its regular passengers, said regular passengers are being forced to give up their luxuries for at least 2 full work weeks so that NJT can provide shuttles on one day. Where is the equipment NJT normally uses for the Meadowlands special event shuttles?

They've extended the platforms at Secaucus Junction for this event, so why not use whatever single level trainsets are available?

One must wonder how many other lines are losing their regularly scheduled equipment, and thus capacity, for such as long period of time.
