CBS News 'This Morning' 8/31/17:

L.A.'s Angels Flight reopens after setbacks

August 31, 2017, 8:44 AM | Angels Flight has carried people on and off for the past 116 years. It travels around 300 feet on a 33 percent incline in the heart of downtown L.A. But on many occasions, it almost disappeared for good. CBS "Sunday Morning's" Lee Cowan shows us the decades-long effort to repair and save the pop culture icon.

San Gabriel (CA) Valley Tribune, 9/1/17:

On Angels Flight, a one-way trip into L.A. history: Larry Wilson

Here in the Golden State of train-hating, where every other letter-to-the-editor writer rails against conductor Jerry Brown’s “bullet train to nowhere,” I set out Thursday on two trains to somewhere and then the world’s shortest railway 298 feet to Bunker Hill. It was all in celebration of the happy return of Angels Flight, the funicular that for $1 hauls you up the steep hill across the street from the foodie paradise of downtown Los Angeles’s Grand Central Market to the cultural resources of California Plaza and its surrounding museums and music.

I can’t think of Angels Flight without recalling how I used to see our friend John Welborne, the downtown lawyer and L.A. historian, answer the question “And what do you do?” at parties by bringing out a business card from his pinstriped-suit pocket. “I am the president of a railroad,” he would say, with a certain twinkling glee, and there it was, in print: For he was the volunteer head of the Angels Flight Foundation.

LA’s coolest ride: Angels Flight is a trip back in time

I want to acknowledge up front that I might be cheating just a bit in my choice for the coolest transit ride in Curbed LA’s Transportation Week challenge. Angels Flight—a steep little railroad that runs up and down Bunker Hill in Downtown Los Angeles—isn’t so much a mode of transportation that Angelenos use to get around as it is a very charming attraction.
