Some snowmobilers also, either naively or arrogantly, look upon railroad rights-of-way as a convenient "freeway" through woodland.

One winter, a Seashore Trolley Museum volunteer was at the controls of Quebec Railway Light & Power  # 454.  The interurban is 62.5 feet long and weighs 67,000 lbs, so it has the intimidating presence similar to a Budd car.  This 1930-built single end electric has a snowplow on the front end and was tossing considerable quantities of Maine snow off the main line.  A snowmobiler got quite a surprise coming face-to-face with this behemoth, and he wisely escaped certain collision by driving off the the right-of-way and tumbling down an embankment.
