BNSF has closed our New Orleans Intermodal facility as of 12:00 p.m. CT on Friday, August 29, 2008. Also New Orleans traffic has been staging en route.

BNSF Houston (Pearland) Intermodal and Barbour’s Cut facilities will be taking the necessary precautions for any potential weather impact as a result of Gustav. Both facilities will continue to load outbound trains and inbound traffic will be slowed or staged en route. If the situation worsens, BNSF will notify you as soon as possible with any other weather impacts to the region.

UP Service Advisory
Updated Tuesday, September 2, 2008 - 8:00 a.m.

Hurricane Gustav

Union Pacific is currently assessing our rail infrastructure in the areas impacted by Hurricane Gustav. The areas west of Lake Charles and Alexandria (Beaumont and Shreveport) were minimally impacted and operations will resume later today. We have crews out inspecting the main line, signal work and industry locations between Lake Charles and Alexandria and all points east. Preliminary reports indicate no major infrastructure damage which could potentially allow us to resume operations within the next 24 hours. We anticipate having a complete assessment by the end of today and we will be able to communicate any damage to our rail infrastructure and provide further updates tomorrow.

CSX Customer News - 9/3/08

Service Bulletin: CSX Reports on Track Inspections Following Gustav

CSX Transportation (CSXT) has completed its initial inspection of track and terminals in the Gulf Coast region impacted by Hurricane Gustav.

Though no significant damage occurred to any of CSXT's bridges or terminals, the company has identified at least 21 miles of track with substantial impact.

Repairs to the track damage, which begins about 10 miles east of New Orleans, will require at least two weeks. As a result, a daily average of 7-10 trains will continue to be rerouted through alternative gateways at Memphis, Tenn.; Birmingham, Ala.; and East St. Louis, Ill.

Due to traffic routed over alternate gateways, some customers may experience slightly longer transit times over these temporary routes.

For more information, customers can call the CSX Customer Service Center at 1-877-ShipCSX (1-877-744-7279), prompts #5 then #6.

Repairs to other isolated track damage between New Orleans and Pascagoula, Miss., and cleanup of downed trees and other debris will take about 24-48 hours.

CN Service Update - 9/2/08

CN crews have been fully engaged in safely and quickly restoring customer and interchange service to areas in Louisiana and Mississippi affected by Hurricane Gustav.

As we continue to inspect trackage south of Jackson, MS, along the McComb, Hammond, Bogalusa, Beaumont and Baton Rouge subdivisions, the main line (Beaumont Subdivision) and Mobile Yard have been inspected, cleared of downed trees, and returned to service. Track passable time on Hammond LA to New Orleans LA via McComb Sub has not been estimated; service to and from New Orleans will operate via the Baton Rouge Sub in the meantime. CN's engineering crews continue to report fallen trees, power outages and potential of partial track washouts in nearby areas, but overall track damage appears to be minimal at this point.

Some signal and crossing locations are without power and many customer facilities continue to be unavailable as a result of natural gas shutdowns and power outages. We will work with these customers to restore their service as their facilities go back online.

Tornado watches remain in effect in some areas, and wind and rain continue throughout the region. This may require some additional debris and tree clearing efforts in some areas already returned to service.

This message will be updated on an ongoing basis until normal service is resumed.

Customers concerned about their shipments scheduled to move through the affected region are encouraged to contact their Customer Service Representative for the most accurate, timely information.

Director, CN Customer Service

CN Service Update

September 03, 2008

UPDATE SUMMARY – HURRICANE GUSTAV

CN’s recovery operations throughout the regions affected by hurricane Gustav are proceeding smoothly. While some delays are to be expected, all subdivisions will be fully operational by Sunday, September 07.

NORMAL SERVICE

Service to and from the following areas has been fully restored, including track inspection and restoration; lifting of embargoes; restoration of normal interchanges; and re-establishment of train and customer switching services:

· Jackson MS to Hattiesburg MS and Mobile AL
· Jackson MS to Ferguson MS and Bogalusa LA

CN personnel are alert to dangers posed by continuing heavy rains and high water in this central Mississippi area. There are reports of trees down on the Yazoo subdivision north of Jackson, due to heavy rains overnight. Several rivers are being monitored for possible flooding and damage to bridges. Track patrols have been increased.

Jackson MS to New Orleans LA via Baton Rouge LA (Geismar, Convent, Remy, Reserve, and Destrehan)

This includes the industrial areas along the Mississippi River. Track inspection and restoration are complete. There are power lines down at three locations this morning - two on the Hammond subdivision, and one on the Baton Rouge subdivision. These are the only impediments to through train operations at this time. Generators are in service to support signal, radio, and automatic crossing locations that have not yet had commercial power restored. CN will be in position to service New Orleans via the Baton Rouge subdivision later today (Wednesday, September 03).

Many major customers have informed us they do not intend to resume production until Saturday September 06, due to startup considerations including unavailability of power, natural gas, and/or their workforce. Accordingly, some embargoes remain in effect in this area. We are working with our connecting carriers to resume normal interchange operations in New Orleans.

Hammond LA to New Orleans LA

CN's main track has sustained considerable damage on this segment, especially where it runs along the shore of Lake Ponchartrain. According to current estimates, the track will be passable by 1800hrs CDT on Sunday, September 07.

This message will be updated on an ongoing basis.

Customers concerned about their shipments scheduled to move through the affected region are encouraged to contact their Customer Service Representative for the most accurate, timely information.
