Today one of my many activities related to the upcoming Fest was to confirm the schedule times of all commuter and intercity trains we are taking on the Fest. While there have been Amtrak, Metro North, Long Island Railroad, and NJ TRANSIT timetable changes since this Fest was announced, there are no changes to calling times for any of those trains.

I've also confirmed a number for the Saturday meal in Poughkeepsie.

OK, I have been looking at the advance notices regarding the NYCT subways for next weekend. In short, it is a total MESS.  We are going to encounter our first real snag!!!

Over the 3-day weekend, there are major reroutes and total disruptions of segments on both the N and D lines. I am still trying to untangle this mess, but it appears that the D is running on 8th Avenue rather than 6th Avenue in Manhattan, and terminating at Chambers Street, with no service in Brooklyn.  The N is replacing the D line in Brooklyn on the West End Line, and buses will then replace the N on the Sea Beach Line.  There are 4 different routes in Brooklyn to & from Coney Island, so we could also ride the Q or F lines if need be. However, the F line will be congested because the A & C lines are using it between Brooklyn & Manhattan due to Sandy-related repairs to the Montague Tunnel.  I'm still working things out and will alter the itinerary accordingly once I figure out what is best. It will not adversely affect any other trip segments that day.   What I think may happen is we take the N running on the D in one direction, and the Q in the other.  I'll keep you posted.

There is an advisory for the 7 line in Queens as well, but this one works in our favor as Hudson Yards-bound trains will be skipping several stations and running express thus saving us a few minutes.

If you are relying on subways to get to & from your hotels in NYC over that weekend, use the MTA's trip planner on their homepage as it has been programmed with the service diversions and disruptions. What I listed above is not all of it.

Hopefully this resolves the issue.  I will keep us going on the N train from Herald Square to Coney Island, running on its own line as far as Atlantic Avenue/Barlcay's Center, and then via the D ( West End) line from there to Coney Island.  The departure and arrival times of this train are only a few minutes later than before.  Returning, I think it would be best then to take the Q train (Brighton Line) back.   This takes us back to Herald Square as the D would have.  Again it is only several minutes later than what was previously on the itinerary.  It still leaves us enough time for the walk along 32nd Street to Penn Station for the evening Amtrak trip.  You'll see the changes just before and after the Nathan's lunch stop on Saturday.

I also adjusted some of the train trips by a minute or so as there have been very minor changes to timekeeping on this line as the extension has shaken out.

Thank you for your efforts. I checked the 1 since that is what Mike and I will use. There was a good service message there today. If there is a problem we can catch the R at rector street to herald square.

Steve, there is a link on the same page for "Future Service" -- put in the date of travel to see what conditions may be like then. It will indicate whether there are any planned service disruptions.
