2 freight train cars derail, causing delays to Amtrak service to Harrisburg

Two empty Norfolk Southern freight cars derailed on tracks near the Harrisburg Transportation Center Wednesday, limiting Amtrak access to the train station.

Dave Pidgeon, a spokesman for Norfolk Southern, said the empty train cars derailed Wednesday afternoon. He said he had not arrived at the scene to determine how severe or how long the delays would be.

Mike Tolbert, an Amtrak spokesman, said the delays are affecting trains No. 42 and 43, which travel from New York to Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh to New York, respectively. Tolbert said passengers affected will take buses from Harrisburg to Rockville and vice versa in order to get to their respective destinations.
