So far I have not constructed a participant list on my official website for the Big Apple RailFest 2005 because nobody has contacted me to say whether they are coming or not. Even if you think I already know, I don't. I don't want to assume anybody is coming when they are not. So please e-mail me and let me know if you are planning to attend so I can put together as accurate a guest list as possible. I have begun doing some pre-Fest preview trips. On October 31st I rode the southern portion of the North Jersey Coast Line (the diesel portion south of Long Branch), and I will soon document the northern, electric portion of it, as well as the Raritan Valley Line. I most likely will also be going into New York City for a few hours at a time on selected weekdays in November and December for the same purpose. I have toyed with the idea, however, of not doing any more route guides. It was a pleasure not to have to worry about them in Toronto earlier this year. Being backlogged as I am with trip reports from previous Fests and personal trips, I don't know if I am up to the task of providing a quality set of route guides as I have in the past for New York and Philadelphia particularly. Anyone who wishes to help in this regard, it would be much appreciated. Finally, there has been some discussion about altering our plans for Sunday's portion of the itinerary, particularly the part where we are to visit Newark Liberty International Airport. I have heard from some that coupled with the AirTrain at JFK Airport, going on AirTrain Newark would make this weekend cost prohibitive. One suggestion being seriously considered is to substitute that portion of the day with a round trip on the newest section of HBLRT in Hoboken and Weehawken. In the next few days, an online poll will be developed to see what the majority wants.

Participant List, from the people who have so far e-mailed me in the affirmative, is here.

Fest preview trip

Today (Wednesday) while Michael was in school I took a trip over the electric portion of the NJ TRANSIT North Jersey Coast Line from Long Branch to Newark (I did the diesel portion south of Long Branch on October 31.). Then a trip from Newark to Raritan on the Raritan Valley Line. I layed over in Raritan for an hour while I walked the equivalent of one mile around the streets looking for places to eat. (You have to go 3 blocks in either direction from the tracks to find any.) Then back from Raritan to Newark Penn Station (where I also documented places to eat), and finally Newark back to Long Branch.

(Patting self on back) What I do for you folks..... :D
