Column in New Hampshire Business Review, 1/14/19:

New Hampshire legislators can take a big step in support of commuter rail

The new Legislature should move quickly to determine if a Capital Corridor Commuter Rail Project is financially and politically feasible. It can do so by immediately amending the state’s 10-year transportation plan to access $4 million in federal funds that are available to New Hampshire.

Letter to the Editor, Nashua, NH Telegraph, 2/17/19:

Nashua needs commuter rail

I moved to Nashua right out of college. My husband, then boyfriend, had a great opportunity to work as an engineer for BAE, and I reasoned that Nashua was close enough to commute to Boston for my career in advertising. Little did I know, my Nashua-to-Boston commute would shape my career and my path in life.

U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-NH, has joined with South Dakota Republican Sen. New Hampshire Business Review, 12/22/20:

New Hampshire Executive Council OKs start of Capitol Corridor design

The prospect of bringing commuter rail service to the Capitol Corridor between Lowell, Mass., and Nashua and Manchester brightened last week after the governor and Executive Council authorized the New Hampshire Bureau of Rails and Transit to contract with AECOM Technical Services Inc. of Manchester to undertake the development and engineering phases of the project.

Story is here.

Note that New Hampshire has been calling this the Capitol Corridor, which to me evokes thoughts of successful Amtrak corridor in California.  Most of our posted articles here have been about extensions north from Lowell, MA to either Nashua or further to Manchester.    The namesake state capital is Concord, so that would take the line even further north.   I hope they do find a different name, maybe more having to do with New Hampshire -- maybe the Granite State Corridor or White Mountain Corridor?   More on what New Hampshire currently calls the Capitol Corridor here.

Commuter Rail Plan To Connect Southern NH With Boston Chugging Along

New Hampshire could have commuter rail service connecting Nashua, Manchester and its airport with the MBTA line at Lowell, Mass., in the coming years as the Executive Council has approved a $5.4 million engineering and public outreach contract for the NH Capitol Corridor rail project.
