So with this segment behind us, in reflection this was a decent trip.  We enjoyed our accommodations, and our sleeper attendants were, well, attentive.  Of course it was an all-day trip without the lowering and raising of beds (as are the next couple of Amtrak segments), but they performed their duties well.   Our dining crew was among the best we've had.  They went out of their way to accomodate the 7 of us, and our food was cooked quickly and was delicious.  We had two full meals aboard the train (lunch and dinner), and due to the lateness of the train we were not rushed through the latter meal.

Speaking of timekeeping, we left New Orleans precisely on time at 9:00 AM.  We had a few delays en route in Louisiana, due to both opposing direction freight trains and some issues with one of the three engines.  We left Lake Charles, LA just about 2 hours late, but with built in padding, our final arrival at Houston was 7:32 PM, just 1 hour 14 minutes late.
