Ann Arbor mayor makes new case for train station in Fuller Park
ANN ARBOR, MI - Mayor Christopher Taylor says he still thinks Fuller Park would be the best place to build a new Amtrak station in Ann Arbor.
In a new 2016 year-in-review letter shared via email and social media this week, Taylor argued the current station on Depot Street cannot handle a material increase in ridership from either expanded Amtrak service or the introduction of a commuter rail service between Ann Arbor and Detroit.
Taylor reveals the city also has received new information from external traffic engineers in connection with the site-assessment process.

Taylor said the city has submitted a draft report to the Federal Railroad Administration to assess the location that best meets federal standards, though federal officials have not signed off on it yet.
"This process has been incredibly frustrating," he writes. "We are (and have been!) working hard to obtain FRA approval for this report and to contract out for preliminary engineering before what we believe to be a May 2017 grant funding deadline. This delay has reduced my confidence in this project moving forward in the short term."
