FTA unveils final environmental statement for Minneapolis' Blue Line extension

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the Metropolitan Council late last week released a final environmental impact statement for a proposed extension of Metro Transit's Blue Line from Minneapolis to Brooklyn Park, Minn.

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has signed off on the environmental review for Metro Transit's Blue Line light-rail extension.

In its record of decision signed Monday, the FTA noted that the Minneapolis-area extension has satisfied the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act. The next step in the process is for the Metropolitan Council to determine the adequacy of the project's final environmental impact statement.

The council is slated to make that decision on Sept. 28.  .  .  .

Minneapolis, MN Star-Tribune, 6/30/17:

Light-rail supporters impatient for Bottineau Line

Some merchants along West Broadway — Robbinsdale's quaint main street — believe the near-northern suburb could be the next Minneapolis Uptown or Northeast, an emerging magnet for the hipster class.

But, they say, one important cog is missing: Light-rail transit. It's in the works but moving slowly. And that has raised the ire of some of its most-prominent supporters.

Bottineau (the other light-rail extension) has a champion in Mike Opat

Minnesotans who remember the deal that built Target Field a decade ago know why Mike Opat bears heed when he talks about the next big project in his sights — the Bottineau light-rail line, aka the Blue Line extension.

First step of Blue Line light rail project begins with Highway 55 closure

For the next two weeks, a quarter-mile section of Highway 55 just west of Downtown Minneapolis between Van White Boulevard and West Lyndale Avenue will be closed for a project to repair and relocate a sewer line. The project represents some of the first work on the planned Blue Line LRT extension.

Twin Cities suburbs rally for Bottineau Blue Line light-rail project

Work on the proposed $1.5 billion Bottineau Blue Line light-rail project has hummed along quietly for several years now, often in the shadow of its more-controversial cousin, the Southwest light-rail line..
