Notice of this excursion just reached me, of course, after AMTRAK's decision to end special train and private car movements.  Check with DC Chapter to see if the excursion is still a go.  Sloan

 

 

Ride the Dover Harbor to Roanoke

The Washington D.C. Chapter NRHS is offering the Star City Special, a Memorial Day Weekend (May 25-28, 2018) rail trip from Washington, D.C., to Roanoke, Va., aboard the chapter’s classic Pullman, Dover Harbor <http://www.doverharbor. com>. This four-day package tour includes round-trip rail trans- portation with meals, snacks and beverages while en route, lodging for three nights at the restored Hotel Roanoke, es- corted tours of the Virginia Museum of Transportation (home of N&W J Class No. 611, A Class No. 1218, and Y Class No. 2156), and the O. Winston Link Museum, and a full day es- corted scenic motor coach tour of Roanoke area sights includ- ing the National D-Day Memorial, lunch at the Peaks of Otter Lodge on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and a winery tour.
