Conde Nast Treveler, 2/26:

Take a Train Through the Lands of Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes

Rail Europe announces author-themed rail trips for the U.K.'s "Year of Literary Heroes."

We've all gotten lost in the world of a favorite book in our minds, but what if we could physically be transported to the scenes on the page? That dream is about to become a reality, thanks to Rail Europe, which is offering a series of literary-themed itineraries from London to surrounding areas. To mark 2017 being dubbed the “Year of the Literary Heroes” by the British Tourist Authority, the rail journeys will run in conjunction with a series of festivals planned throughout the United Kingdom, which celebrate famous written works and the geniuses who created them—from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to J.K. Rowling.

“These stories and authors are treasured around the world, and now is the perfect time to celebrate them on their milestone anniversaries," Melanie Albaric, Marketing & Communications Manager for Rail Europe, told Condé Nast Traveler. "Many trains offer easy transportation to these stories’ settings or author’s hometowns, so travelers can truly immerse themselves in the worlds of their favorite books.”

Taking place at various points throughout the year, these itineraries make it easy to visit all the literary hot spots. And since the routes are simply suggestions, you can tailor your trip to include exactly what you want to see. Check out these three options.
