Amtrak plan to limit Hudson River access along eastern shore draws objections

 

 

Municipal leaders and environmental groups are asking the state Department of State to extend the deadline for public comments on a proposal by Amtrak to block the unauthorized use of access roads near the train tracks on the east side of the Hudson River.

Five Columbia County town supervisors are calling for a suspension of the state’s public comment period for Amtrak’s proposed 8,200 feet of fencing along the Hudson River in Columbia and Dutchess counties.

Mayor: Hudson Amtrak fencing put off

 

 

A plan to install fencing on city Amtrak property has been put on hold, Mayor Rick Rector said.

 

Hudson wasn’t included in Amtrak’s original plan to install 8,200 feet of fence along the Hudson River in Dutchess and Columbia counties, but was added days before the May 1 public comment period was set to end, Rector said in City Hall on Tuesday.

Rhinebeck supervisor says Amtrak to have forum on access plan

 

 

The town has received a tentative agreement from Amtrak to have a representative conduct a public forum about plans to put gates and fences along unofficial access points to the Hudson River via railroad service roads.

Germantown disputes need for Amtrak to limit river access along railroad tracks

 

 

The town Waterfront Advisory Committee says a report by Amtrak shows railroad officials have overstated the need to limit access to the Hudson River near the tracks used by the railroad.

Amtrak meeting set for Jan. 29 in Germantown

 

 

Municipal officials from towns in Columbia County and Dutchess County will meet on Jan. 29 with Amtrak and state Department of Transportation representatives to discuss controversial plans to curb access to tracks that run along the Hudson River.
