“The Reading: Then and Now” will be the topic of an illustrated talk by Dale Woodland to Harrisburg Chapter National Railway Historical Society on May 12 at Hoss’s Restaurant, 743 Wertzville Rd., Enola, PA.  Business meeting and speaker begin at 7 pm, with a meal available as early as 5 pm. The dinner and meeting are open to the public.

Woodland’s program will feature Reading Railroad action prior to 1976 as well as contemporary scenes showing what has changed in the intervening years.  In addition there will be views of various short line railroads operating on former Reading trackage.

A resident of Souderton, PA, Woodland has chronicled Reading Railroad history for many years. He is also editor of the Keystoner section for Railpace magazine.

Harrisburg Chapter, one of over 149 chapters of the National Railway Historical Society, is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to studying railroad history and preserving significant local railroad artifacts. Major projects include: maintaining Pennsylvania’s official electric locomotive (GG-1 # 4859) as well as Pennsylvania Railroad wood-sided N6B caboose, preserving and operating Harris Tower, and showcasing operating model train layouts to community groups.
