Construction of the long-planned new Amtrak train station along West Main Street is to be completed by July 21, 2021, according to information put out Wednesday by consulting engineers on the project.
Somehow I more believe the later target date than the earlier one. Nevertheless, here is the link.

I finally got the chance to visit the new Middletown station yesterday.
So all those dignitaries participated in a ceremony in January, and then nobody of any authority or role, other than the travelers using the stations, has been back since. Except spiders. While it's surely an improvement over the former downtown location, and on a straighter track, in 6+ months the place is absolutely overrun with cobwebs. They are all over the stairways, elevator shaft, windows, light fixtures, and just about everywhere else. While I realize the station is unattended, somebody has to come and maintain it. Here are a few photos I shot, and look carefully for what is hanging from everywhere. There were points on the stairway that I had to duck under that stuff. 20220727_115800.jpg 137.72KB 0 downloads 20220727_120136.jpg 181.03KB 0 downloads 20220727_120253.jpg 148.29KB 0 downloads
Reminds me of my visit to Paoli this past winter, where the overhead walkway and only access to the island platform had a water leak in its roof that had frozen on the floor causing an ice slick.
