NJ.com, 10/23:

More WiFi coming to NJ Transit stations, and maybe to trains

Commuters will be able to connect their laptops, tablets and smartphones to WiFi at more NJ Transit stations by the end of the year and eventually to WiFi-equipped train cars and buses in the future.

"There will be an additional 30 stations by the end of the year and the next implementation will be on board trains," said Michael Slack, Chief Information Officer. "We will come back with a WiFi implementation that we think is very strong."

NJ Transit currently offers WiFi through Cablevision in 40 rail stations, which includes major stations such as Newark Penn Station and Broad Street, Metropark, New Brunswick, Secaucus, Summit, Trenton and Hoboken Terminal, Slack said. Stickers identify WiFi enabled stations.

Related to the above post in October of 2014, over 3 years later and there still is no WiFi on NJ TRANSIT trains.  Here is an article about station WiFi, a little late since it's from a few weeks ago in December, and how it is only offered free to subscribers of one cable company (luckily mine!).  From NJTV News, 12/26/17:

Commuters grumble at having to pay for Wi-Fi at NJ Transit stations

It’s free at places like Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts, even on board Amtrak. But, not on NJ Transit where the Wi-Fi will cost more than a cup of coffee.

“If everyone else can offer it for free, why can’t New Jersey?” asked Bergenfield resident Donna Hamilton.
