Metro hopes latest accident video released will improve safety, caution
HOUSTON -- They are videos that make those watching hold their breath; close encounters with light rail trains.
On Tuesday, the Metropolitan Transit Authority shone a spotlight on the issue by releasing several close encounters in hopes the public pays attention.
The videos shows accidents or near-misses with light rail versus cars, distracted pedestrians and those simply trying to beat the trains.
"Unfortunately, we've see was a real spike in accidents on the rail system," said Tom Lambert, President and CEO of METRO. "We had 17 accidents in June, unfortunately two of those 17 resulted in fatalities."
