Use this thread to report on our time in Portland from arrival on the Cascades on Thursday, July 14th through our departure on the Coast Starlight on Friday, July 15th.

Because we knew we would arrive into Portland late, we decided to push back dinner 1/2 hour from a 5 PM start to 5:30.  This would allow us to get to check-in at hotels, dump luggage, and get back to the chosen restaurant.

 

Indeed we walked into Henry's at 5:28, and were treated very well.  Everyone seems to have enjoyed their dinners.

 

After we ate it was time for the Thursday evening streetcar loop ride.  We may have just missed a B Streetcar, as our wait was quite a while. A message board in the shelter at the stop said that one streetcar was out of circulation on this line, which would cause a delay.  We finally boarded at 7:29 PM, and rode around the loop.   Then, we were dumped at Grand & Burnside because that streetcar was also being taken out of service.   We only had to wait about 2 minutes until the next one.   Alan, Grace, and I had already ridden the northern half of the loop getting to the restaurant, thus I lost the notion to ride around another time and so the three of us at 8:07 got off at Grand/Holladay where we had boarded earlier and walked to our hotel.  Those staying at the Embassy Suites rode around to 11th/Couch where we had gotten on, arriving 8:28 PM.  Steve and Mike remained on another revolution to where we got off earlier and then took MAX to their hotel in Beaverton.

 

Tomorrow:  MAX Orange Line and the A Streetcar loop.

We accomplished our riding on the MAX Orange Line and the A Streetcar Loop very well and on time. 

 

The gang split for lunch and retrieving luggage, and then met again in the Metropolitan Lounge at Portland Union Station. Currently awaiting the southbound Coast Starlight, which is running a little late through Washington State.
