With state officials expected to soon announce plans to build the Green Line extension to Somerville and Medford, reaction in those cities differed dramatically yesterday.
While Somerville officials were ecstatic about the project, Medford officials were cautious.

This story is here.State officials announced yesterday that Somerville's Union Square would get a separate branch of the Green Line extension, adding $100 million to the cost of transit projects promised to offset the environmental impact of the Big Dig.

You asked for it Somerville, and you're going to get it.
State transportation officials are recommending the extension of Green Line train service through Somerville and onto Medford, and a Green Line branch that will run into Union Square.

For this story, see this.The state Legislature last week approved a $1.47 billion bond bill that includes funding for the environmental review and preliminary design of the Green Line Extension from Lechmere Station in Cambridge to Union Square in Somerville and Medford Hillside.

State backs Green Line extension into Medford
MEDFORD - Clean-air activists praised state officials yesterday afternoon for endorsing a plan to expand the MBTA's Green Line into Medford, saying it would boost ridership and decrease the number of cars clogging the region's highways.

I thought it would run next to the Lowell Line, not the Fitchburg Line.The extension of the Green Line into Medford would follow the existing right-of-way along the commuter rail's Fitchburg Line.

It is the Lowell line although there is the possibility of a spur up the Fitchburg line.Boston guys, is the caption under the photo in the above article correct?
I thought it would run next to the Lowell Line, not the Fitchburg Line.The extension of the Green Line into Medford would follow the existing right-of-way along the commuter rail's Fitchburg Line.
