As of 12 Noon Friday, New York City Transit has not yet publicly announced any plans to end or cutback service on its subways and Staten Island Railway. Their site only points to their general winter weather preparations. Gut feeling here is that their "Weekender" plans for trackwork that include subway route diversions will probably be cancelled, at least for Saturday. But no firm word yet.

After a press conference from Mayor Bloomberg, subway status is confirmed. NYCT will attempt to run subways through the rush hour normally, and then they will begin to store equipment underground, which will impact express service on some routes.

LIRR Service Advisory

The LIRR continues to urge customers who work in New York City to leave for eastbound trips as early as possible, before the brunt of the forecasted snowstorm hits the region. For the safety of customers, the LIRR will suspend service if snow accumulations reach between 10-13 inches. Crews will be out in force to clear tracks and the third rail used to power electric trains. Please monitor our website for service advisories.

Metro-North Suspends Service Due to Severity of the Winter Storm

Because of the accelerating severity of the storm as well as projected snowfall accumulations of more than a foot, Metro-North Railroad will begin a suspension of train service on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven Lines at approximately 10 PM. This service suspension will continue until further notice.

With the significant increase in snowfall and high winds, the risk of a train becoming disabled with customers on board also increases significantly. Therefore, it is important to stop service at this time to ensure customer safety and to allow Metro-North employees to conduct aggressive snow fighting operations to keep the right of way as clear as possible. Road conditions have also deteriorated, with many road closures in Metro-North's service territory.

In addition, Grand Central Terminal will close after the last trains arrive, approximately midnight.

Shutting down the system allows Metro-North to secure and protect its equipment and infrastructure from the significant snowfall and high winds expected to hit the region.

All connecting services will also be suspended.

The following is a list of the last trains operating on our territory:

Hudson Line

-10:05 PM train from Grand Central making all stops to Poughkeepsie

-9:59 PM train from Poughkeepsie making all stops to Grand Central

Hudson Line Storm Schedule

Harlem Line

-10:00 PM train from Grand Central making Fordham then all stops to Southeast with a connection to Wassaic

-9:25 PM train from Wassaic making all stops to Fordham, then Harlem-125th St followed by Grand Central

Harlem Line Storm Schedule

New Haven Line

-10:22 PM train from Grand Central making all stops to New Haven, with connections to New Canaan and Danbury Branches

-9:17 PM train from New Haven making all stops to Grand Central

The last train from New Canaan departs at 9:30 PM.
The last train from Danbury departs at 8:59 PM
The last train from Waterbury departs at 9:35 PM

New Haven Line Storm Schedule

We urge customers to monitor media reports and to check this web site for the latest updates.

West-of-Hudson Service

Standard getaway service will operate on the Port Jervis Line: Train 59 (6:11 PM from Hoboken; 6:03 PM connection from New York-Penn station) will NOT operate. Train 41 will terminate at Suffern. This is shown in the October 14, 2012 Port Jervis Line timetable. See http://www.njtransit.com/ for more info.

Be sure to continue to check this web site and listen to the media for updates.

Please take care when traveling during inclement weather and allow for additional travel time. Customers should use caution when entering and exiting trains, and on platforms and staircases.

Montauk Branch Customers

Long Island Rail Road has suspended service on the Montauk Branch east of Speonk for safety reasons due to snow accumulation and visibility issues. Service will be restored as soon as it is safe to do so. For updates, visit http://www.mta.info/lirr .

The 10:38PM train from Montauk due Jamaica at 1:44AM, is canceled due to storm conditions.

Posted: 02/08/2013 10:46PM
Port Jefferson Branch Customers

Long Island Rail Road is experiencing up to 30 minute delays in both directions on the Huntington/Port Jefferson Branch due to storm conditions.

The 9:55PM train from Huntington due Port Jefferson at 10:42PM, is operating 23 minutes late due to storm conditions.

The 9:41PM train from Port Jefferson due Hicksville at 10:46PM, is being held in Port Jefferson due to storm conditions.

Posted: 02/08/2013 10:43PM
Ronkonkoma Branch Customers

The 10:11PM train from Ronkonkoma due Penn at 11:32PM, is being held in Ronkonkoma due to storm conditions.

If a train has to be held due to storm conditions, then perhaps LIRR should have followed MNRR's lead in suspending service at a certain time.
