Metra, CTA to offer extra service for Lollapalooza  
(July 27, 2017) -  With thousands of music fans expected to descend upon Chicago’s Grant Park to enjoy one of the country’s most popular music festivals, Metra and CTA are adding service and expanding capacity to serve customers throughout the Chicago area

 

Starting Thursday, Aug. 3 through Sunday, Aug. 6, Metra will provide extra trains, expand passenger capacity and adjust schedules on most lines to accommodate the increase in ridership anticipated during the four-day event. CTA will add service on rail lines and bus routes, including routes that bring riders from Union Station and Ogilvie Transportation Center to Grant Park.

 

“Lollapalooza attracts music lovers from all over the world to enjoy a diverse lineup of artists in a uniquely Chicago setting,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Don Orseno. “By adding service and offering discounted train tickets, we are making Metra the best way to travel into the city to enjoy this festival.”

 

“Without a doubt, public transit is the fastest, most convenient and most affordable way to visit Lollapalooza,” said CTA President Dorval R. Carter, Jr. “CTA will have ample train and bus service to get music fans to the festival easily and comfortably.”

 

This year, Metra is offering unlimited ride, two-day train passes to Lollapalooza. A pass for Thursday, Aug. 3 and Friday, Aug. 4 costs $10 and is valid for trains arriving downtown after 9:30 a.m. For Saturday, Aug. 5 and Sunday, Aug. 6, festival-goers can purchase an $8 pass that will be valid all day. Train passes are on sale now at all ticket windows, including all downtown and outlying stations, and on the free Ventra App, available in the App Store or Google Play.

 

CTA will offer limited-edition farecard wallets to riders who purchase 7-day, 3-day or 1-day unlimited ride passes.  The farecard wallets, featuring Lollapalooza artwork, will be available with unlimited ride pass purchases at select CTA stations starting August 2. Locations will be announced on August 1.

NICTD/South Shore Line news release:

 
Lollapalooza Extra Eastbound & Westbound Trains

An extra eastbound train will operate on Thursday, August 3rd and Friday, August 4th from Dune Park on westbound Train 14’s time. 

 

An extra westbound train will be departing Portage/Ogden Dune on Saturday, August 5th and Sunday, August 6th on Train 606’s time. An extra eastbound train will be departing Millennium Station at 10:50 p.m. serving Van Buren at 10:52 p.m. and running non-stop to Hegewisch making all intermediate stops and terminating at Carroll Avenue. *THIS EXTRA TRAIN WILL NOT SERVE HUDSON LAKE OR SOUTH BEND.

 

 *Bikes on trains will not be available August 3-6.
