Penn Line delays W. Balto-Penn Sta due to emergency trackwork thru Wednesday

 

MARC Penn Line trains will experience delays between West Baltimore and Baltimore Penn Station due to unscheduled emergency Amtrak trackwork.  This will result in single-track operation, which may delay rush hour trains 15-25 minutes and midday trains 5-10 minutes.  These delays can be expected through Wednesday.

 

We regret any inconvenience and thank you for your patience while Amtrak performs this necessary work.

Penn Line Schedule Change for Monday, 12-15-14

 

Due to this morning's service disruption,MARC 428 will terminate in Odenton.  MARC 430 and MARC 532 will transport passengers to Baltimore.  As a result, MARC 447 is cancelled. Passengers will be accomodated on Amtrak 85.  We regret the inconvenience.

Penn Line: Delays will continue tomorrow for track repairs, Trs 428 and 447 affected, full details:

 

MARC Penn Line trains will continue to experience delays between West Baltimore and Baltimore Penn Station due to unscheduled emergency Amtrak trackwork.  This will result in single-track operation, which may delay rush hour trains 15-25 minutes and midday trains 5-10 minutes.  These delays can be expected through Wednesday or Thursday.

 

In addition, to ease train congestion, Train 428 (4:10pm departure from Union Station) will terminate at Odenton.  Passengers traveling north of Odenton will transfer to Train 532.  Train 447 (5:50pm departure from Penn Station) will be cancelled.  Passengers will be accomodated at no additional charge on Amtrak Train 85, which makes the following stops:

 

Baltimore Penn, 5:42pm

BWI Marshall Airport, 5:56pm

New Carrollton, 6:10pm

Washington, 6:25pm

Train delays due to 'excessive water infiltration' into B&P tunnel, Amtrak says
 

The need to replace the Baltimore & Potomac Tunnel that winds its way beneath West Baltimore became evident once again this week, as crews descended on a portion of the nearly 150-year-old rail bore to conduct emergency track work.

 

According to Amtrak, which owns the tunnel and is conducting the work, the issue — which forced the Maryland Transit Administration to announce likely delays for MARC commuter rail passengers this week — is a symptom of a long-standing problem.

Amtrak trackwork will extend thru 12/24, delays still possible, Trs 428/447 affected, full details:

 

Amtrak has informed the MARC Train Service that repairs to one of the two tracks in the tunnel between West Baltimore and Penn Station is taking longer than anticipated. The new estimated date for completion is Wednesday, December 24. Amtrak is putting all available resources into this emergency trackwork, however, a survey yesterday found that the damage was more significant than first thought.

 

Penn Line rush hour trains may experience 15-25 minute delays
