For years this scenic line had the sarcastic nickname "Good & Quick" because track was rickety and the train was so slow. With improved right-of-way, Ecuador's railway will be able to provide a comfortable tourist venue in the Andean region with increased capacity but without a big environmental footprint. Reliable train service will also improve commerce to mountain villages along the way.

Ecuador's other major tourist site is the Galapagos Islands which have limited landing rights for cruise ships in order to minimize harm to to indigenous and unique flora and fauna.

P. S.: Ecuador uses the U. S. dollar as its currency.
