    Metro Transit to encourage its senior staff to ride the light rail  

 

 

Metro Transit officials said senior staff members will be seen on light rail trains and buses more often going forward as part of new efforts to improve public transit.

 

It's part of an expansion on the Safety & Security Action Plan to improve public safety and ease of use for riders.

‘You have to see it firsthand’: A morning on the light rail with We Push For Peace

 

Nonprofit We Push For Peace has been riding the Metro Transit Light Rail morning and night for nearly a month.

 

Their presence is a part of Metro Transit’s “action plan” to improve safety for riders, and on Tuesday, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS went along for the morning ride on the Green Line to see and hear what the group has observed over the last month.

Metro Transit deploys new agents to address safety concerns on light rail

 

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - Metro Transit officials recognize a lot needs to be done to make riders feel safer on the light rail. Officials rolled out another safety initiative Thursday in an effort to increase safety and ridership.

 

Transit Rider Investment Program (TRIP) agents will ride the METRO green and blue lines alongside riders. They will be enforcing rules and also getting riders the help they may need. Light rail riders told FOX 9 they already noticed the agents, who wear royal blue uniforms, on Thursday.

Metro Transit's safety plan is boosting ridership, GM says

 

Metro Transit leaders see an increase in ridership as a positive sign that the Minneapolis agency's "Safety and Security Action Plan" is having an impact.

 

"The continued increase in ridership is an encouraging sign that the efforts we’re making to provide a consistently high-quality experience are making a difference," said General Manager Lesley Kandaras in a press release. "At the same time, I know from my own experiences and from hearing from riders and employees that we have much more work to do to improve conditions on our system."
