What are the possibilities of running a connecting train from LA to Victorville to try to put aside fears of the town becoming a giant Park and Ride?

Biggest hindrance is the heavy freight traffic through the Cajon Pass. Adding another track is probably the best solution.

Perhaps if BNSF is triple-tracking Cajon, how much would it cost to add a 4th track over Cajon, and extra tracks on the lines as far as Victorville? It should at least be explored.

I finally found a website for this project. Here it is:

DesertExpress

They do eventually hope to get it over Cajon Pass, and possibly connect with the proposed California High Speed Rail line:

Desert Express-Future

The technology page includes this little blurb:

DesertXpress will utilize proven, off-the-shelf European steel wheel on rail high-speed trains, customized for the unique setting of the corridor. Train interiors will be configured to maximize entertainment and passenger comfort.

Hoisting the FRA by its own petard?

Hoisting the FRA by its own petard?

Could be a possibility.
