TTC powers up third rail on Line 1 subway extension
The Toronto Transit Commission has powered up the third rail on its Line 1 subway extension to begin trial runs for trains.
The move also allows the TTC to test the automatic train control signal system, agency officials said in a press release.

TTC workers on the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension have a big job ahead of them before riders hop on in three months time.
The city recently announced an opening date -- Dec. 17, 2017 – for commuters but before then, TTC officials warn there are hundreds of tests to be done and snags to iron out.

Heads of three levels of government helped inaugurate the first new TTC subway project in more than decade Friday.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Premier Kathleen Wynne, Toronto Mayor John Tory, and York Region Chairman Wayne Emmerson were among the dignitaries on hand to cut the ribbon on the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension, which has pushed the TTC subway network outside of Toronto for the first time in its history.

For the first time in its 96-year history, Toronto Transit Commission trains are about to start carrying passengers outside present city limits.
The Toronto-York Spadina subway extension (TYSSE) goes into regular service on Sunday, 11 years after the province sprang the plan on the TTC.

TTC subway trains carry 1st riders to Vaughan as Line 1 extension opens
Toronto Transit Commission subway trains carried the first riders on its new Line 1 extension early Sunday all the way to Vaughan.
The 8.6 kilometre extension includes six new stations. The stations opened at 8 a.m.
