MBTA news release:

Buses to Replace Red Line Service Between Park and Kendall/MIT Stations on Weekends Beginning September 30

Posted on September 26, 2017

BOSTON — To accommodate the Longfellow Bridge Rehabilitation Project, MBTA customers are reminded that shuttle buses will replace Red Line trains in both directions between Park Street and Kendall/MIT Stations with a stop at Charles/MGH Station on weekends beginning this Saturday, September 30, 2017 and continuing on most weekends through Sunday, December 17, 2017.

The shuttle bus route and stops are shown on this map. Exact shuttle bus stop locations are below:

  • Kendall/MIT: Shuttle buses will pick up and drop off at the Marriott Hotel.
  • Charles/MGH:
    • Inbound shuttle buses will pick up and drop off at Cambridge Street @ Grove Street.
    • Outbound shuttle buses will pick up and drop off at Cambridge Street @ Charles Street near the Liberty Hotel.
  • Park Street: Shuttle buses will pick up and drop off at Tremont Street @ Temple Place.

During the weekends in which buses will shuttle customers, elements below the Red Line’s right of way will be replaced, which requires the removal and replacement of all Red Line track systems near Charles/MGH Station. The replacement of the track may also require some speed restrictions in this area of the Red Line for the days immediately following each weekend.

On each weekend, bus shuttle replacement service will begin at the start of service on Saturday and will end at the beginning of service on Monday. All shuttle bus stops are accessible for persons with disabilities.

Red Line passengers should note that regular weekend Red Line train service is anticipated to operate during the Head of the Charles weekend, which takes place on October 21 and 22, and during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Similar Red Line shuttle bus replacement has occurred on about a dozen occasions previously in the Longfellow Bridge area due to project work, and the MBTA has appreciated the patience and understanding of customers as bridge infrastructure is improved and replaced.

For more information, see Longfellow Bridge Closures, visit T-Alerts, and follow @MBTA on Twitter for updates.

MBTA news release:

MBTA Red Line Bus Shuttles Between Park Street and Kendall/MIT This Weekend

Posted on November 8, 2017

Park Street and Charles/MGH shuttle stops temporarily moved during Saturday Veterans Day Parade

BOSTON – To accommodate the Longfellow Bridge Rehabilitation Project, MBTA customers are reminded that shuttle buses continue to replace Red Line trains in both directions between Park Street and Kendall/MIT Stations on weekends, including this Saturday and Sunday, November 11 and 12.

The annual Veterans Day Parade is also scheduled in the City of Boston on Saturday, November 11. During the parade, the shuttle bus route will temporarily divert around the parade area from approximately noon through 3 PM:

Before and after the parade, shuttle buses will continue to service the Park Street shuttle bus stop located at Tremont Street at the intersection of Temple Place as well as the Charles/MGH inbound shuttle bus stop located at Cambridge Street at the intersection of Grove Street.

On Saturday and on Sunday and during the Veterans Day Parade, Red Line bus shuttles will continue to make these shuttle bus stops:

  • Kendall/MIT: Shuttle buses will pick up and drop off at the Marriott Hotel.
  • Charles/MGH: Outbound shuttle buses will pick up and drop off at Cambridge Street at the intersection of Charles Street near the Liberty Hotel.

Regular Saturday service will also operate on Veterans Day for all MBTA modes.

Bus shuttles are necessary on several weekends for Red Line customers because elements below the Red Line’s right of way are being replaced, which requires the removal and replacement of all Red Line track systems near Charles/MGH Station.

Red Line passengers should note that there will be no bus shuttles during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, November 25 and 26. Regular weekend Red Line train service will operate.

The MBTA appreciates the patience and understanding of customers as Longfellow Bridge infrastructure is improved and replaced.
