Shore Line East's website reports the following, both about their trains and connecting Metro North service:
==============================
There has been a major power outage in the northeast, including New York City and portions of Connecticut.
Metro-North trains are not operating, however
Shore Line East trains are operating on a very limited basis (since train signals are out because of the power outage).
Passengers who elect to take a Shore Line East train from New Haven this evening should go to Union Station (not State Street Station).
More information will be posted as it becomes available.

Friday morning update from Shore Line East. Note that the date should be August 15th, not the 16th.
=============
Due to yesterdays power outage, Metro-North New Haven Line trains plan to operate on their weekend schedule today (Friday, August 16th). For more info, call 1-800-METRO-INFO (1-800-638-7646).
Shore Line East trains are operating on a normal schedule today (Friday, August 16th).
