Newark, NJ Star-Ledger, 5/4/15:

Direct rush hour train service to the Jersey Shore starts mid-May, NJ Transit says

NJ Transit officials were successful in getting federal funds to give commuters six one-seat rush hour trains between New York and Bay Head starting later this month.

The new service is a prelude to NJ Transit officials seeking funds to extend summer express service on the North Jersey Coast Line this year, said Nancy Snyder, an NJ Transit spokeswoman.

One reader suggested that NJT use equipment from the former ACES to boost service and amenities on the shore express trains.  Spoiler alert:  They can't, because the retrofitted multilevel cars were returned to regular commuter rail features after the demise of ACES.  From Newark, NJ Star-Ledger, 4/21/15:

Can you get a first class rail ride to the shore this summer?

Reader Harvey Bass of Hopatcong e-mailed an idea and a question about NJ Transit's plans to run direct express trains to the shore, based on a transit advocate's suggestion they market the service similar to the Long Island Rail Road Cannon ball service to the Hamptons and Montauk.
