In 2008, county voters approved Measure R, a half-cent sales tax. It enables the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, or Metro, to build a network of lines. One of these lines, the Pacific Electric West Santa Ana Branch, will run on an abandoned right of way through Orange County, continuing north towards Union Station.

L.A. Metro OKs contracts for environmental study of new rail route

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (Metro) board yesterday approved contracts to proceed with environmental work and community outreach for the proposed West Santa Ana Branch rail line, which would connect L.A.'s Union Station to Artesia, Calif.

Parsons Brinckerhoff Inc. obtained contracts to complete the environmental clearance for the project, while Arrellano Associates LLC won a contract for community outreach, Metro officials said in a press release.

L.A. Metro to begin environmental process for West Santa Ana rail line

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) will host a public scoping meeting tomorrow to initiate environmental studies for the proposed West Santa Ana Branch light-rail line.

The event will be the first of four meetings held in preparation of a draft environmental statement and environmental impact report, Metro officials said in a press release.

Metro officials will provide information about the 20-mile light-rail line and solicit ideas. The proposed branch would connect downtown Los Angeles to southeast Los Angeles County.

Community meetings this month to discuss new northern route options for West Santa Ana Branch Corridor

The different route options being studied for bringing the West Santa Ana Branch Corridor into downtown Los Angeles. 

 

 

We posted last month about new northern route options that will be studied for the West Santa Ana Branch project, which will be a light rail line between Artesia and downtown Los Angeles. Community meetings are now scheduled to discuss those route options and provide project updates.

 

Here’s the info:

The West Santa Ana Branch (WSAB) Transit Corridor Project is a new 20-mile light rail transit line that would connect downtown Los Angeles to southeast L.A. County, serving the cities and communities of Downtown Los Angeles, unincorporated Florence-Graham community of L.A. County, Vernon, Huntington Park, Bell, Cudahy, South Gate, Downey, Paramount, Bellflower, Cerritos and Artesia.

 

Metro formally initiated the environmental studies through the public scoping meetings held in summer 2017. Based on the feedback received through the public scoping period and ongoing technical analysis, Metro is studying new northern alignment options in addition to the original four northern alignment options.

 

Join us to learn the latest project updates and provide your feedback on the proposed alignment options. Those unable to attend the meetings can view the presentation via a live stream starting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday,  March 13, at www.tinyurl.com/MetroWSAB.

Metro narrows the options for a light-rail line from downtown L.A. to Artesia

 

Los Angeles County transportation officials on Thursday chose two possible routes through downtown for a light-rail line to Artesia that could attract tens of thousands of riders a day.

 

 

Update

 

It's a shame that most, if not all, of the options have the line dead-ending somewhere downtown.  This could cause congestion, specifically if this new line is interlined with existing rail lines. The whole purpose of the Regional Connector tunnel now under construction is to bring rail traffic through the city, as opposed to the current situation where the Blue and Expo Lines dead end.  So maybe planners should look to the north as well and find another potential route that could be paired with the Artesia / West Santa Ana Branch to provide through service across the downtown area.

LA Metro to present latest West Santa Ana light-rail plan to the public

 

 

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) has scheduled a series of community meetings to review the Artesia-to-downtown LA light-rail project, which also is known as the West Santa Ana Branch Transit Corridor.

The environmental study for the project is underway and the agency's board last month approved a series of project refinements that will be discussed at the meetings to be held Jan. 30, Feb. 2 and Feb. 7.

Metro is evaluating a new 19-mile light-rail line that would connect downtown LA to southeast LA County. The project's name originates from the southern portion of the route south of the Metro Green Line that follows the old Pacific Electric streetcar alignment known as the West Santa Ana Branch Corridor, Metro officials said in a project summary. The project is anticipated to start in 2022.

The Downtown community can hear the latest and share their thoughts on a proposed rail line that would link the Central City with southeast Los Angeles County this week. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will be holding a series of community meetings concerning the West Santa Ana Branch Transit Corridor with general updates and new information on the schedule.

The Eco-Rapid Transit Board of Directors unanimously approved Alternative 1 of the 19.4-mile light-rail line that will connect Artesia to downtown Los Angeles.

    Metro Board to select route and terminus for light rail line to Southeast L.A. County  

 

 

Metro is planning a new light rail line that will run between Southeast L.A. County and downtown Los Angeles known as the West Santa Ana Transit Corridor. The Metro Board of Directors is scheduled this month to select a route for the initial segment — between the city of Artesia and the A Line’s Slauson Station — and to consider L.A. Union Station as the rail line’s eventual terminus.
