PANYNJ news release (n0n-rail information deleted for brevity):

PORT AUTHORITY PREPARES FOR THIRD WINTER NOR’EASTER IN PAST TWO WEEKS

Date: Mar 12, 2018

A winter Nor’easter, the third to hit the New York-New Jersey region in the past two weeks, is forecast to begin around midnight tonight and continue through midday Tuesday with heavy wet snow expected. In preparation, the Port Authority has taken significant measures to ensure safe, efficient operations at its airports, tunnels, bridges, terminals, port facilities and PATH system.

The National Weather Service currently forecasts that snow will begin around midnight tonight and continue through midday Tuesday. The forecast calls for 3 to 4 inches of wet snow in New York City, lower amounts in New Jersey and higher snow totals on eastern Long Island.

The Port Authority has made extensive preparations for personnel and equipment at all of its facilities. The agency will activate its main agency-wide Emergency Operations Center in Jersey City at 11 p.m. tonight to monitor storm conditions. Facility specific Emergency Operations Centers will be activated tonight at John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International and LaGuardia airports. The Port Authority also is in contact with the states of New York and New Jersey, as well as other local and federal officials and agencies to coordinate responses to this winter storm.

In advance of the storm, the Port Authority has made plans to provide busing in the event that service on AirTrain Newark or AirTrain JFK must be suspended.

SNIP

PATH plans to operate regular service on Tuesday.

The Port Authority has the following winter weather equipment and supplies ready at its major transportation facilities:

  • SNIP
  • Plow equipped trains, liquid snow-melting agent trains and a “jet engine” plow to remove snow from PATH tracks, and snow blowers, plows and spreaders to clear station entrances, roads that serve PATH’s 13 stations, and various support facilities.
  • Generators and pumps have been checked to assure all are operational if needed.

Customers can access up-to-date information on conditions at Port Authority facilities on the Port Authority’s website by clicking here, which includes live feeds of its respective social media channels. In addition to the website, travelers also are encouraged to sign up for Port Authority alerts at http://www.paalerts.com/or follow @PANYNJ. Travelers may also call 511 or visit 511NY.org or 511NJ.org for further information on highway conditions.
