Light Rail, Ferry Services Resume Sunday
Light Rail, Ferry Services Resume Sunday

Effective: Sunday, August 28, 2011 at 12:00pm

Full Bus, Para-transit Services start Monday

Norfolk, Va. – Hampton Roads Transit will re-introduce limited transit services on Sunday afternoon after a check of local conditions found no significant damage to HRT systems caused by Hurricane Irene.

Light rail service will begin at noon Sunday. Ferry service across the Elizabeth River also begins at noon. Regular bus and para-transit service begins Monday morning.

Caution is urged for motorists traveling in downtown Norfolk because not all traffic signals are fully operational. Look and listen for the presence of trains downtown. Customers who used light rail to park their vehicles in downtown garages before the storm are encouraged to use rail again retrieve their property.

Sunday remains a fare-free period for light rail, but starting Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, HRT will begin collecting fares on The Tide. A one-trip pass is $1.50. Fares can be purchased at all station platforms from ticket vending machines. They perform cash, debit and credit transactions.
