Here's a thought. If they can't get federal money, why not ask energy billionaire and Oklahoma native T. Boone Pickens?

EDMOND — Building three proposed commuter rail corridors from a downtown Oklahoma City hub will depend in part on whether existing railway companies believe the project benefits their interests, according to a recent meeting of the Regional Transit Dialogue Steering Committee.

EDMOND — Community leaders formed a north corridor stakeholders work group meeting Monday to provide local input for the CentralOK!go Study. This study is a collaborative effort of the Regional Transit Dialogue Steering Committee.
The RTD steering committee oversees the $1.25 million “Commuter Rail Corridor Analysis” conducted by URS Corporation for the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments. RTD is specifically looking at commuter rail as the most likely option for the metro and not light rail, the committee pointed out in January.
For a commuter rail study, $1.25 million is, IMHO, awfully steep. There should be plenty of demographic information as well as geographic information to compute travel demand readily available, so field work would be minimal.

Commuter rail is one step closer to reality
Six mayors from central Oklahoma communities made history and brought the region one step closer to mass transit when they signed a historic agreement Tuesday to create the Central Oklahoma Regional Task Force. The memorandum of understanding was signed at the designated regional transit hub, the Santa Fe Station in Oklahoma City.

Coming down the tracks: Regional Transit Authority could be up and running by 2025
The effort to create a regional transit authority is inching down the tracks.
On Tuesday, Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) acting executive director John Sharp and Kathryn Holmes, of Holmes & Associates, gave a presentation to the city council on regional transit dialogue that highlighted progress and optimism for the long imagined transit plan that would connect Norman, Edmond and Oklahoma City by commuter rail.

EDMOND MAKING PLANS FOR COMMUTER TRAIN TO OKC, NORMAN
The city of Edmond is allocating half a million dollars toward a commuter train project. The project is still left up to public vote from all three cities, but if approved, it could take people from Edmond to Norman with a stop in Oklahoma City.
