What you need to know about the streetcar

Cincinnati's streetcar finally has arrived at the finish line. By that, we mean it's reached the beginning – having cleared a decade of political hurdles, twists and turns en route to Friday's much-anticipated opening to the public.

Here's a hatchet job from the Reason Foundation complete with vulgar headline and the usual canard about making a profit.

Taking a spin on Cincinnati's long-debated, new $148-million streetcar (photos, video)

CINCINNATI, Ohio – I took a tour of central Cincinnati recently, aboard the city's new streetcar.

I boarded near the city's historic Findlay Market, wound past Fountain Square, then continued south toward the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and Great American Ball Park. I hopped off for dinner just north of the JACK Cincinnati Casino.

Re the SNIP below; it would be better to run the next line across the Ohio River to the airport, IMO.  That plan would attract a broader constituency.  Sloan

Talks continue over the proposed second phase of the streetcar line, which would link Cincinnati's downtown and Over-the-Rhine neighborhoods with the city's "Pill Hill" area, home to the University of Cincinnati and a half-dozen hospitals.

City to SORTA: Speed up the streetcar or else

The Cincinnati streetcar continues to run behind schedule, not meeting a promise of no more than a 15-minute wait at any station.

Officials Say Streetcar Ticket Machine Working Much Better

In October, a Cincinnati council majority was ready to end a contract with the company responsible for the streetcar ticket vending machines.  Now that firm says the problems have been addressed and it's offering a three-year extended warranty on the devices.
