Resolutions don't mean anything. I could make a statement here and now that I'd like to see the Sunset Limited service east of New Orleans restored, but will it make a difference? Amtrak will do what Amtrak wants to do, and after almost 7 years and several President/CEO's, and no increase in the equipment pool, we can't expect this will happen anytime soon.

You're right, Kevin. Amtrak will not move on it's own. A mult-state compact is likely the best way to bring the Sunset back to Florida. Even then, passengers would have to change trains in New Orleans. How 'bout a DMU with bistro service?

With the upcoming schedule change for the Sunset Limited, and since it appears it may never be a daily train in all of our lifetimes, I think the thought of its extension eastward is a moot point. The calling times in Biloxi and across the Florida panhandle would just not be user friendly. To me it's more likely that this would either be a totally separate train, or an extension of the City of New Orleans. And with Florida directly involved in a multi-state compact as you suggest, perhaps the train would serve more locations in that state. Maybe it would even be thrown into the mix when they decide which train to send over the FEC line.
