Fort Worth Transportation Authority is primarily a bus operation, but they partner with DART of Dallas in administering Trinity Railway Express commuter rail. They will have their second commuter rail property once TexRail opens (scheduled to happen by the end of this year 2018).  From NBC Dallas/Fort Worth, 1/29/18:

The T Becomes Trinity Metro

Public transportation in the City of Fort Worth will be under a different name.

Monday, the Fort Worth Transit Authority voted to change the name of the transit program once known as "The T" to be known as "Trinity Metro."

Fort Worth, TX Star-Telegram, 1/31/18:

Why Fort Worth trains and buses won’t be called the T anymore; what it means for riders

Fort Worth is getting rid of the T.

But it’s not what you might think. Users of public transportation will still be able to catch a bus, train or other transit vehicle.

My thoughts?  I am not excited about the new name.  Trinity is also the first name of TRE.  So calling the entire system Trinity Metro is going to be confusing.  And then potentially renaming TexRail as Trinity Metro as well, might make things even worse.

Then there's the M word.  Too many properties use the term "Metro" in their names. I can see an established system like Paris or Montreal, but what is a bus company that is also getting into commuter rail, with no rail rapid transit to speak of, is stretching it.   In this day of social media handles and hashtags and internet addresses, the agency names need to be more unique.  As FWTA they could have remained unique, and with their until-now nickname of "The T", they were probably in contention with Boston for the designation.
