Watch: TriMet’s ‘A Better Red’ requires multi-day disruption to MAX Red Line starting this weekend

Written by Tyler Graf, TriMet

One critical piece of a bigger puzzle will be put into place during an upcoming disruption on TriMet’s MAX Red Line from April 2 through April 9.

Crews will work around the clock to move a 200-foot section of the existing track about 500 feet farther north. Moving the switch—the part where a single track splits into two—will make room for an eventual bridge over the existing tracks and the I-205 multi-use path. This is part of A Better Red, TriMet’s multi-year MAX Red Line extension and reliability improvement project that will reduce delays and expand Red Line service 10 stations west, from Beaverton Transit Center to Fair Complex/Hillsboro Airport.

MAX Red Line service will be suspended with no Red Line trains running on the system April 2-9.  . . .

  TIPS TO RIDE, APRIL 2-9

Remember, no direct MAX service to and from PDX: Without the MAX Red Line operating, our train-to-plane service will be disrupted. But, with shuttle buses running on the Red Line’s schedule, riders will still be able to catch their flights or leave the airport without having to spend extra money on a cab or ride share. Think of the Gateway Transit Center as your brief layover before grabbing a connection.

MAX Blue and Green line trains will take you to the Gateway Transit Center. Just remember to get off the train and make your way to the shuttle bus locations. Watch for signs leading the way. Heading out from PDX, take the shuttle bus to Gateway and transfer to a Blue or Green Line train.

KPTV Portland, OR, 7/29/22

Construction to disrupt MAX Red Line service this weekend

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) - A new construction project by TriMet may make your commute even longer this weekend.

MAX Red Line trains will not be running this Saturday and Sunday as TriMet crews work to install a new light rail bridge just north of the Gateway Transit Center. Riders typically take the Red Line from Gateway to the Portland International Airport.

Those riders aren’t waiting out in the heat for too long - TriMet says shuttle buses will be running from Gateway to PDX instead.

MAX Red Line services will be disrupted this weekend for TriMet’s “A Better Red” project, which aims to get rid of bottlenecks on the existing Red Line track.

Railway Track & Structures, 8/29/22

Crews prepare to build light rail bridge on TriMet project

TriMet’s ongoing efforts to rejuvenate and improve the MAX system in the Portland, Ore., area will continue in September and require closures of I-84 and a small section of the MAX Blue Line.

The closure of I-84 is necessary so crews can continue building a new light rail bridge over the freeway.

As TriMet’s A Better Red project continues to make progress in the Gateway area, crews will be setting girders for a new MAX bridge near the junction of I-84 and I-205 during the weekend closure.

TriMet’s A Better Red project requires 126-day shutdown of MAX Red Line starting this weekend

TriMet is nearing the start of a 126-day disruption to the MAX Red Line beginning on Saturday, June 18. No MAX trains will run between Gateway Transit Center and Portland International Airport for four months, the longest planned MAX disruption in TriMet’s history. If you’ve already booked plane tickets and were planning to take MAX to PDX, don’t worry, we’ll still have you covered, with shuttle buses serving Gateway, PDX and all the closed stations between. With shuttle buses taking surface roads to and from the airport, you will want to plan at least an extra 30 minutes for your trip. More.

TriMet e-mail, 12/13/23:

Six-week MAX disruption planned as TriMet nears completion of major Better Red milestone

TriMet is preparing to put the finishing touches on our A Better Red construction at the Gateway/NE 99th Ave Transit Center, capping off a major part of a project that broke ground in September 2021. To reach this milestone, the Gateway Transit Center will be closed to trains from Jan. 14 through Feb. 25. During that time, crews will connect the new track and systems that were previously constructed just north of the transit center, and they’ll get the new Gateway North station ready for service beginning on Monday, Feb. 26. We encourage those who ride MAX Blue, Green and Red lines to use alternative modes of transportation during the disruption. MAX will not serve the Gateway Transit Center while construction is taking place, with MAX Blue and Green lines disrupted and MAX Red Line suspended.

More.
