Service Alert: Amtrak Service Bulletin Hurricane Rita
September 25, 2005 1 p.m. CT
Following the landfall of Hurricane Rita, Amtrak implemented a revised service plan for its trains to and from Texas. Plans are in place for the Texas Eagle to resume regular service. Service by the Sunset Limited was restored on September 25 and service by the Heartland Flyer was uninterrupted.
Amtrak offered full refunds and waived all fees for passengers who made reservations on the affected trains on the affected dates.
Southbound Texas Eagle , train 21/321/421
The Texas Eagle scheduled to originate in Chicago on September 26 will operate through to San Antonio on September 27.
Northbound Texas Eagle , train 22/322/422
The Texas Eagle scheduled to originate in San Antonio on September 26 will operate only between San Antonio and Fort Worth (with alternate transportation between Fort Worth and Dallas through an arrangement with Trinity Rail Express) and between Saint Louis and Chicago on September 27.
The Texas Eagle scheduled to originate in San Antonio on September 27 will operate through to Chicago on September 28.
Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach Connections with the Texas Eagle at Longview, Texas, were suspended due to the service disruption. Service to and from Galveston/Houston and to and from Bossier City/Shreveport resumes on September 27.
Amtrak stations between Dallas and Saint Louis on the Texas Eagle route that were closed due to the temporary service suspension reopen by September 27. Customers are also being assisted by calling 800-USA-RAIL.
