The Southwest Corridor Light Rail Project has reached an important milestone: completion of the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS). Design work on the project was paused in 2020 after voters rejected a local funding measure for multiple transportation improvements. In the meantime, Metro, TriMet and the Federal Transit Administration continued working to complete the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), to ensure the project is eligible for future federal funding. See Metro's project website to access the FEIS.

The FEIS presents information about the project's potential impacts and benefits, and it specifies strategies to minimize or mitigate significant impacts. It also responds to public comments on the 2018 Draft Environmental Impact Statement.

With funding currently uncertain, the project’s timeline is unknown. However, it is clear that the Portland region needs more affordable, reliable, low-carbon transportation options. The Southwest Corridor Light Rail Project would expand the MAX system, connecting more people to jobs, education, recreation and daily necessities without the need for a car. It would also include coordinated investments to foster connected and affordable communities where all people can live, work and thrive.

Visit Metro's project website to access the FEIS or trimet.org/swcorridor to learn more about the project.
