City's politicos and supporters have been aggressively seeking a station stop for the Empire Builder. Looks like it will happen. From the Wenatchee World via the Seattle Post Intelligencer

Have any of these folks taken a peak at the EB schedule? The stop times are poor for the tourist trade. Yumm, I love the aroma of pork.
QUOTE The train stop could increase tourism to the town and increase local job opportunities, as well as give visitors from Western Washington the option of riding the train rather than driving through the Cascades, Eaton said That quote has to come with a laugh track..what happened to it? How many people are going to both put up with getting into town at 9pm, and then also needing to get up at 5am or earlier??QUOTE The city of Whitefish, Mont., gets an estimated 60,000 tourists each year through its Amtrak stop. Those visitors spend an estimated $5.7 million no, the handy dandy state fact sheet says that about half that number use the stop here as each person gets on once and gets off once. And not all of these people are tourists, and many don't stay anywhere near the town either. This post has been edited by ICGsteve: Dec 25 2007, 01:36 AM |
