On August 16, Mexican Secretary of Communications and Transport (SCT) Gerardo Ruiz Esparza and Governor Jose Calzada Rovirosa of the State of Querétaro announced the tender for a high-speed passenger rail line between Mexico City and Querétaro, a city of one million people 218 km. northwest of Mexico City.

China submits only bid for Mexican HS project
SCT says it expects construction to start in December and commercial services are due to begin operating in the second half of 2017.

Mexico seems to have the right idea. If this project were in the USA, it would be bogged down with numerous studies enriching consultants thereby delaying construction for years.

A Chinese-led consortium has won an uncontested contract for a multi-billion dollar high-speed passenger rail link between Mexico City and the central city of Queretaro, the Mexican Transport and Communications Ministry said on Monday.

Mexico cancels high-speed rail contract
The Mexican government has cancelled a contract to build the country’s first high-speed railway just days after awarding.
In a statement, Mexico’s Secretariat of Communications and Transportation said it had annulled the 50.82 billion peso (€3 billion) contract with a consortium of Chinese, Mexican and French companies because of ‘doubts and concerns’ about the process.

Mexico Suspends Multibillion Dollar High-Speed Rail Project At Center Of Political Scandal
The Mexican government postponed again, this time indefinitely, a controversial $3.7 billion dollar high-speed train project. Finance Minister Luis Videgaray made the announcement at the end of January claiming lack of funding. Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto confirmed that the train was the victim of budget cuts. On Monday, the Ministry of Communications said the Mexican government will compensate the Chinese-led consortium that was awarded the first contract in 2014.
