Knox News, 4/10/18:

Knoxville downtown rail project has been a long time coming, but can it stay on track?

Former Knoxville City Councilman Joe Hultquist has long been a proponent of public transit, dating back to his time with the city.

And he thinks he has a window of opportunity that could bring light rail to downtown.

I agree that temporal separation won't work on Norfolk Southern's branch line.  The railroad needs on-demand access in order to provide convenient service to its customers. And a a proposed light rail line needs to run in the evenings too for the benefit of shift workers, airport travelers, and casual riders going to entertainment venues.

A dedicated line for light rail parallel to the fright line would be best with appropriate passing loops.  I am glad to note that San Diego's U-2s are available for sale.  They would lower the cost of start-up and provide the base for growth and eventual upgrade.

As mentioned at the start of this thread, Tennessee has only one  museum in the state with a preserved trolley (albeit on static display) and it is in Knoxville.  Here's a two-year old video of the streetcar inside the East Tennessee History Center.  Gotta love those plush walkover seats!
