Proposed light rail routes to Norfolk Naval Station would go up Granby St. or Hampton Blvd.

Hampton Roads Transit has selected two possible light rail routes to the Naval Station Norfolk, one of which would bypass Old Dominion University.

Old Dominion University has a defunct maglev on its site.

Editorial in Hampton Roads Virginian-Pilot, Norfolk, VA, 9/24/17:

Light-rail choice should be about the future

THE PATH selected for a proposed light rail line in Norfolk will say more about where the region is headed over the next 20 to 30 years than where it is today.

As such, it will be important for Hampton Roads Transit officials, community leaders and residents to focus on potential future growth as HRT conducts a multi-year process of determining how light rail could — and should — be expanded.

Norfolk is traffic counting for light rail expansion

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- If you drive through the city of Norfolk a lot, you may have noticed sets of black tubes running across several streets.

It turns out, they are part of the light-rail extension study that's being conducted on the west side of the city.
