SEPTA website:

A Message from the General Manager

As the emergency management agencies told the people of southeastern Pennsylvania, the three critical steps to being safe and staying safe in the wake of Hurricane Irene were preparing a plan beforehand, closely monitoring the situation during the storm, and being ready to deal with flooding, downed trees and wires, and street obstructions after the rain and winds subsided.

Philadelphia, PA Inquirer, 9/2/11:

SEPTA: Trenton line troubles due to signal house flooding

SEPTA today spelled out for the first time the cause of the ongoing service disruption on its Trenton Regional Rail Line, saying it's due to flooding damage to a signal house.

Full story is here. As the article explains, Amtrak and NJT are not affected by this because they don't do heavy switching operations at Trenton.

SEPTA.org:

Full Service to be Restored to Trenton Line
Tuesday, September 6, 2011

SEPTA will resume full rail service on the Trenton Regional Rail Line on Tuesday morning, Sept. 6, 2011. Regularly scheduled train service will begin with the start of the service day.

Trenton Regional Rail Line service was disrupted due to record flooding from Hurricane Irene, which caused damage to Amtrak signal equipment near the Trenton Transit Center. These signals are critical to the safe operation of SEPTA Trenton Line trains and, therefore, SEPTA has been unable to provide full rail service over the last week. Trenton Line trains have been operating to-and-from Center City and Levittown, with shuttle buses providing service between Levittown and Trenton.

SEPTA would like to thank Amtrak and its crews for the round-the-clock work to make these repairs, which will allow SEPTA to restore normal service for its Trenton Line customers starting with the Tuesday morning commute. SEPTA would also like to thank riders for their patience during this service disruption.
